How do you feel about Winter? For many, myself included, it’s tough! Cold, dark, damp weather; colds, flu and other illnesses flying around; skin dries out, might get sore and cracked; muscles and joints ache more; mood and motivation are often low. Sounds familiar? Don’t despair, there is lots I can help with to boost your Winter resilience!
Boost your natural defences with a massage
It’s that time of year when our natural defences can be quite low. Did you know, massage might help?
Massage is known to reduce stress levels and since stress has a negative impact on the body’s immune system, having a massage is likely to help improve the body’s defences.
Clinical research is frequently being carried out and there’s a good summary of some of the current findings here: https://www.massagemag.com/this-is-how-massage-helps-build-a-healthy-immune-system-122365/
Massage may also help relieve aches and pains, stiffness and tension. I see many clients suffering increased neck and shoulder tension and discomfort in the winter months from huddling up against the cold. Symptoms of arthritis can also worsen in cold and damp conditions. A gentle massage can help ease associated body aches and tension and reduce pain and discomfort.
Protect your skin with a nourishing Holistic Facial
Extremes of temperature and humidity wreak havoc with our skin! Flitting from dry, centrally heated homes and offices to cold, damp, windy exterior environments can cause redness, dryness, chapped and cracked skin.
I love the Wild Rose range from Neal’s Yard Remedies at this time of year to keep my skin nourished and protected and I adore working with these products in my Radiance Boosting Holistic Facials!
Cleansing and exfoliating the skin removes dead skin cells which can clog and irritate the skin and dull the complexion. A facial massage stimulates the circulation and helps reduce stress levels whilst the nourishing serum and moisturiser keeps skin hydrated and helps protect from the elements.
JANUARY OFFER
As a special treat for January, I have added a luxurious back massage at no extra cost! Book your Radiance Facial and Massage today for just £60 this month.
Take care of your hands
We all know that washing our hands is key to minimising our risk of catching and spreading coughs, colds and Covid but that can take its toll on your skin at this time of year in particular.
Choose hand washes with natural ingredients to use with running water rather than always relying on drying sanitisers. Dry your hands thoroughly after washing and choose a good nourishing hand cream or lotion to apply regularly to stop skin drying and cracking.
Neal’s Yard Remedies do a fabulous Defend & Protect range for hands and their Wild Rose Hand Cream is also soothing and nourishing.
All the Hand Care products are currently in the Winter Sale so it’s a great time to stock up! https://uk.nyrorganic.com/shop/samcolverd/area/shop-online/category/hand-care/

Customer Feedback
I recently created a chest rub for a client struggling to shake off the effects of a nasty cough and cold which was also affecting her quality of sleep. This is the feedback I received: “Thank you so much for my little bottle of magic! I have used it for a week now and my chest infection has certainly cleared and, best of all, sleeping improved. So fragrant and calming, love it!” – Jennie Bennett
Whilst not intended as an alternative to conventional medicine, aromatherapy can certainly help to support you holistically at this and other times of the year.
Other ways to support your Winter Wellbeing
There are plenty of other ways we can helps ourselves stay healthy through the winter months. Keeping hydrated is always useful to help the body function optimally and a healthy diet filled with a variety of antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables, fibre and protein is essential.
But when we need additional support, adding some herbal remedies and good quality supplements can also be helpful.
I am not a nutritionist or herbalist so please seek appropriate advice if you have a specific health condition or if you are pregnant.
For general support, I like the Neal’s Yard Remedies Super Antioxidant Boost to help keep me topped up on the immune-supporting vitamins.
The Honey & Thyme Syrup and Eucalyptus Pastilles have also come in very handy so far this Winter for soothing sore throats and coughs.
